Whilst every the case was being dealt with, as 'four murders and a suicide', and was only being taken through the Coroner's Court system, the cops weren't interested in correctly identifying the guns that fired the 25 shots which wounded and killed the five victims, other than to forward two rifles to the Lab' at Huntingdon in the same packaging as Hand swabs on the 9th August 1985, which had the effect of causing the Lab' to reject the hand swabs because of possible contamination issues. On that occasion, the anshuzt rifle that was submitted was described as a bolt action type weapon, whereas the rifle that had been photographed in possession of Sheila's body at the scene on the first morning of the police investigation was a semi-automatic weapon!

Was the second rifle involved in the shootings of Jeremy Bamber a bolt action rifle?

Was the mystery rifle captured in one of the crime scene photographs in the kitchen, that no-one was to refer to in their notes, reports, pocketbook entries of witness statements, this bolt action type rifle that got sent to the Lab' along with the hand swabs taken from Sheila Caffell's hands, and the semi-automatic version of the anshuzt rifle?

If true...

The Bamber family did not own a Anshuzt .22 bolt action rifle, so to whom did it belong?

What we do know is that one of the 25 spent cartridge cases which corresponded to the 25 bullets known to have wounded or killed victims in this case, was taken away separately still sat in the breach of a bolt action type weapon!

This missing, or should I say, unaccounted for cartridge case was almost certainly part of the original round (PV/20) which had been fired into Sheila Caffell's neck, at a time she was present downstairs in the kitchen ( ref to the timed police radio message log version of the events), to which timed entries at 7.35am, 7.37am, 7.38am, 7.42am and 7.45am, refers)..

No-one appeared to have been the slightest bit concerned that the 25 wounds to victims, the 25 original crime scene batch of ammunition (bullets, or part bullets), and the batch of 23 corresponding bullet cases did not add up anytime prior to the dates when the bodies of victims were cremated or buried, that was until the relatives started to pressurise Essex police into taking action against Jeremy Bamber, from as late as 8th September 1985!

Although on the 7th/8th August 1985, the pathologist, Peter Venezis removed a total of 20 bullets, or part bullets from the bodies of the deceased, what is regarded as being highly significant, was the fact that he was only able to recover two of the three bullets used to kill Nicholas Caffell - so, this failing on the pathologists behalf meant that he should have recovered a total of 21 bullets from the bodies of the five victims, not 20...

Add to this the five loose bullets recovered from the scene, produces a grand total of 26 bullets fired at the time of, or during the shootings!

It's a fact, 26 shots fired, yet only 25 corresponding spent cartridge cases recovered from the scene - the missing spent cartridge case being accounted for by the fact that 'it' was still sat perched in the breach of the bolt action rifle - 25 spent cartridge cases recovered from the scene, + the solitary spent cartridge case trapped inside a bolt action type weapons breach..

26 shots fired, only 25 spent cartridge cases recovered, victims only received 25 bullet entry wounds, 20 bullets recovered from the bodies of the five victims, + one bullet not recovered from the skull of Nicholas Caffell during autopsies performed 7th / 8th August 1985, and a total of five loose bullets recovered from the scene itself, simply adds to the mystery behind these shootings!

There is little doubt in my mind, that the missing 26th Spent bullet case was not found or recovered from the scene in the way the other (?) Spent cartridge cases were accounted for, was because whoever had fired the 26th bullet had fired it from a bolt action type weapon, and for whatever reason best known to themselves, had not felt it necessary to work the bolt of the gun to extract it's corresponding bullet case - in other words, no more bullets were fired by the bolt action rifle, after 'it' had been used to inflict the shot (bullet PV/20) across Sheila's neck in the kitchen...

A month after the shootings, Essex police set about doing ballistic tests to enable them to present the shootings at whf as a one gun crime!

A month after the shootings, Essex police set about doing ballistic tests to enable them to present the shootings at whf as a one gun crime!

It required that one of the 25 bullets which had officially been recovered from the bodies of victims (20) and the scene (5), needed to be switched with a test fired control bullet test fired in the anshuzt semi - automatic anshuzt rifle post date of the tragedy. An unofficial test fire of the anshuzt semi-automatic rifle took place, after which, a whole test fired round was used to replace the original piece of a badly fragmented bullet that had been exhibit PV/20, without the need to replace it's corresponding spent cartridge case, because the original corresponding spent cartridge case of the original piece of a badly fragmented bullet (PV/20) had not been included in the original batch of 25 corresponding bullet cases! It was a simple case of a straight swap over of the original piece of a badly fragmented bullet that had been exhibit PV/20, with its substituted counter part!

The 25th spent cartridge case recovered from the scene being associated with the unrecovered bullet from the skull of Nicholas Caffell - producing 25 bullets, 25 spent cartridge cases, against 25 bullet entry wounds..
