Where had that gun been prior to the evening of the 9th August 1985, when Peter Eaton returned it to the farmhouse?

Everything points to the fact that Anthony Pargeters .22 bolt action rifle and his silencer was the gun in question, that his silencer was fixed onto the end of the barrel of his rifle, and that on the first morning of the police investigation, that this was the weapon, the rifle which had been captured in one of the crime scene photographs taken at the scene in the kitchen on the first morning of the police investigation, a rifle which no officer was to refer to, or to make mention of, in their notes, statements or their reports...

It is documented that Stan Jones left Jeremy's cottage and that he returned to the farmhouse and that he took four exhibits on the first morning of the police investigation (SBJ/4, SBJ/3, SBJ/2 and SBJ/1)...

Exhibit 'SBJ/1' which he took possession of on that occasion (7th August 1985) was almost certainly Anthony Pargeters .22 bolt action rifle and his silencer!

Police retained possession of exhibit 'SBJ/1' between the morning of the 7th August 1985, until the evening of the 9th August 1985, when they returned it back to the farmhouse! In particular, they handed it to Peter Eaton at the time the keys to whf were returned to himself and his wife Ann Eaton (the evening of 9th August 1985)....

Jones and Jones had visited Jeremy at his cottage in nearby Goldhanger on the late afternoon of the 9th August 1985 asking him whether or not a silencer had been attached to the end of the guns barrel which he had handled on the evening of the tragedy?

What appears to be a consequence of what Jeremy told the police at that time, was that Anthony Pargeters rifle and his silencer was returned back to the farmhouse later that evening, in particular, handed back to Peter Eaton (a registered firearms dealer) the 'Pargeter rifle' and 'his silencer', which Peter Eaton subsequently returned to the farmhouse...

Hence, why on the following day (10th August 1985) that David Boutflour was able to find or discover the silencer in the gun cupboard in the downstairs office, where it had not been present at all beforehand - it is almost certain, as certain as anybody can be that Anthony Pargeters rifle and his silencer was the gun that was captured in one of the police photographs taken in the nearby kitchen on the first morning of the police investigation...

'A red flag' leaps out of the case file regarding this matter...

Interestingly enough, when Stan Jones was interviewed as part of the COLP investigation, he could not remember why he had returned to the scene of these shootings on the first morning of the police investigation, or what if anything he had done or what he might have taken possession of on that occasion - but the truth in this matter is that he seized four exhibits including the all important exhibit 'SBJ/1' (Anthony Pargeters .22 bolt action rifle and his silencer)...
