He was in the adjacent flat at the time of the murders. It's the same old story of strong circumstantial evidence with the suggestion of Police corruption.

He didn't actually say it. From the film it says he squeezed a police officer's hand to elicit a yes or a no answer. He changed his testimony afterwards anyway. For the accused to be innocent he has to escape from prison, just happen to find a hideaway in the night in question in the whole of California where a quadruple homicide occurs and be unlucky enough that law enforcement planted his DNA in order to send an innocent man to the electric chair.

Well as I say if you consider all Police corrupt in all cases you will believe him innocent.

There may have been an accomplice, but Josh Ryen now doesn't recall anything about the intruder. https://youtu.be/g-KNm_BPXOM

They know who committed the murders. Unfortuantly for the cooper the police found out too late. By then they had already falsified the evidence believing cooper was the real killer. There was no going back.

5441C OOPER v. BROWN
On June 9, Roper examined the coveralls that Furrow had left at her house on the night of the murders. She called her father, who then called the SBCSD. ER 1591, 4895. According to SBCSD Deputy Eckley, who was dispatched to Roper’s house, the coveralls were “heavily splattered” with blood. ER 1578. Deputy Eckley took the coveralls into evidence and gave a report to his supervisor. ER 1582. Deputy Eckley’s report, dated June 10, 1983, stated that Roper “suspects that

the bloody coveralls are from the Chino murders and has further information regarding that incident and/or possible suspect/s.” ER 3105. As will be recounted in more detail below, Deputy Eckley discarded the coveralls in a dumpster during Cooper’s preliminary hearing in his capital case. Deputy Eckley claimed at trial that he acted alone in destruction of the bloody coveralls. However, the initials “KS” on the Disposition Report for the coveralls indicate that Senior SBCSD Deputy Ken Schneckengast approved the destruction.

So you have Cooper, whose telephone calls were tracked to the empty apartment 100 yards from the crime scene. You have his speck of blood (41) at the crime scene inside the Ryen's house. But now you want Lee Furrow to have deliberately targeted that house for some reason, coincidentally on the same night Cooper is present, yet no clear motive exists.

If you'd said three Mexican men had targeted the family because they were refused work earlier in the day I would have been more inclined to concur.

100 yards away from the crime scene is not the same as being at the crime scene.

he was in the area so were loads of other people.

just being near a crime scene on its own. doesnt implicate you in the crime.

No but there was a speck of his blood in the Ryen's home, exhibit 41. If you believe it was planted then that's up to you.
