Hello ngb I agree with every word Ross is a dangerous thug and is where he deserves to be I followed the whole case from start to finsh even watched a programme on the TV where they interviewed his Father.

I also followed the case from the outset Susan.  It was truly shocking and the police knew who was responsible and so did the community in Kirkwall.  The police took the view that they did not have quite enough evidence to bring charges at the time.  I remember the second Crimewatch appeal years later and I am sure that provided the impetus for witnesses to come forward, providing the additional evidence which secured the conviction.  His father has a lot to answer for in my view.  If he had behaved as he should have done at the time his son would have been convicted as a Young Offender and he would by now be free and rebuilding his life.  In addition the father would not have served a prison sentence and lost his career in the police.  The victim's family could also have had an opportunity to find closure and move on, instead of having their suffering continued unnecessarily for years after the murder.  Even recently they have had to endure the spectacle of misguided supporters of Michael Ross demonstrating in Kirkwall.  The website linked at the top of this thread is a disgrace and does no credit to WAP.  After the Adrian Prout case I would have hoped that they would be more selective in the cases they support.

I wonder if he is responsible for other violent crimes. It would seem likely that he is.

My wife: "Any new developments on the Bamber case?"
Me: "Nuffing really".
Wife: "What are they discussing?"
Me: "Nothing interesting".
Wife: Has he heard anything about his appeal yet?"
Me: "Dunno".
Wife: "Nothing new then?"
Me: Nah" ;D

It was probably thrown into the sea with the balaclava and the rest of the ammunition.

Michael Ross's father only handed in the unopened box of ammunition.  He concealed the fact that he had been given another box of the same ammunition, opened.  I believe he handed the full box in because it would have been very dangerous for him not to do so.  The person who had given him the ammunition for disposal, years before, lived in Kirkwall and might have reported the matter when he realised the significance of the type and make of the ammunition.  Having handed in the unopened box the father was forced to reveal how he had obtained it. He then contacted the person who had given it to him and persuaded him to refer only to the unopened box when questioned by police.  This led to his prosecution and conviction for what in England would be referred to as perverting the course of justice.
