A belated hello!
« on: February 12, 2012, 01:14:PM »
Please accept my apologies for not introducing myself when I  first posted last week.  I was aware of the foyer but initially had difficulty in navigating my way around the system!

I will start off by stating that I believe Jeremy Bamber to be wholly innocent so my posts maybe somewhat bias.

I'm especially interested in the following aspects of the case:

How the Bamber family was created ie through adoption, a sociological and legal process and not a bilological and psychological process as with a birth family.  Recognising the fundamental differences between the two and how this played out in the Bamber family dynamics both immediate and extended.

Full history of Bamber family members including Sheila and Jeremy's birth families.

June and Sheila's mental illness especially the origins of.

Evolutionary biology ie 'The Cinderella Effect'

This one might be seen as controversial:

Differences in thinking between men and women and how this might have influenced JB's conviction and ongoing plight.  By this I mean that exluding witnesses the cast is almost all male: Jeremy, police, coroner, forensic scientists, solicitors, barristers, judges, psychologists and even the admin people on this forum!?

Hello egap, welcome to the forum. Are you a qualified psychologist? I so we would be interested in your views.

No I am not a psychologist.  I did start a psychology degree in the mid 80's but switched to business studies as I found the stats too much.

I was adopted at the age of 6 wks - same as Jeremy.  I have never experienced any significant problems myself but I am aware that adoptees are at higher risk of various psychological issues.  This is largely dependant on the child's coping mechanisms and interactions with adoptive parents.

It is difficult to impress on non-adoptees the differences that exist between an adoptive family and a birth family - a bit like describing sight to somone born blind or vice-versa  - unless you have first -hand experience it is often difficult to comprehend.

However, I have no particular interest in adoption psychology per se but I do believe that it is fundamental to Jeremy's case and something that has been overlooked.  I am sure if the trial was to take place today the psychologists called to act as expert witnesses would elaborate on it and interpret family member's behaviour based on this and the jury's verdict may have been different by having this understanding.

The Times commissioned a report a few months ago produced by the coalition goverment's new adoption czar outlining the governement's proposals for increasing adoptions.  I disagreed with a lot of the content, as did a lot of other people, and  recently wrote to David Cameron about it.  I had a letter back from his office saying that it had been passed to the department responsible.  In my letter I made reference to some adoptions that had gone horribly wrong, including the Bambers, and asked for a forensic psychologist specialising in adoption to review these cases before setting targets to increase adoptions.  I sent a copy to Jeremy.  It is obviously up to him and his legal representatives to decide if it can be pursued in any shape or form.

Great work Egap

From looking at the Bamber case the family looked perfect to take in these precious 2 babies.

A beautiful farm in the country in acres of grounds

Not so it seems

Junes mental problems, shipped off to boarding school the children hated and hated by the extended family as outsiders

Egap I hope he reads your letter I am sure there is still a lot to learn about children put up for adoption and where they are placed
