Steve... As a member of the chattering classes..

I always imagine Steve as being some kind of Mancunian or Lancashire post punk type comprehensive teacher. Somebody who may have attended Joy Division gigs as a young teenager.

Funny how we imagine other forum members.

Frankly I don't care who he is or what he thinks.  I just wish he'd leave me alone.  Or if he wants to engage in debate and criticism, I wish he'd stick to debate and criticism and not make things personal or take other people's views as some sort of personal affront to himself.  It's completely idiotic and it makes any sort of discussion impossible.  "How dare you say that!"  Steve hasn't left the classroom.  He's still the tallest person in the room and can't accept that there are other adults here with different experiences to his.  If Steve wants to dictate the direction, theme, wording, tone and content of posts, then he needs to start his own forum.

You can practice what you preach.

And you can practise what you preach.

I think all members, especially Steve, should do both!

Thank you.

I know the difference.  It's a typo.

So far, you've spotted two typographical errors of mine, and tried to make out that this is due to ignorance.
It's not.  I am better educated than you, as I keep demonstrating.  Much to your embarrassment, you have also tried to correct me three more times when it turned out I was right.

I think you should obsess less about minor/trivial errors, and concentrate on showing a bit more respect to people.

In other words, please practise what you preach.  Practise what you said further up the thread.  Stop coming on here to stir up trouble and provoke people.
I don't care about members' spelling, as long as they don't comment negatively on other people's. You still haven't learned, but that state of affairs is nothing new as far as you are concerned.

I have not commented negatively on other people's spelling.  Actually, the only person who has done that as far as I can recall is yourself.  Incidentally, in the case of the practice/practise error, it is not a spelling mistake.  That is, assuming it is a mistake and not a typo.  You seem to assume that every such mistake I make is out of ignorance, you don't allow for accident.   In the event, I have only made two such errors in well over a thousand posts, both typos.  Not a bad record.

I think, all in all, I must regard your comment as exceptionally hypocritical, but then, that's nothing exceptional for you.

You are, again, a typical member of the chattering classes: an astoundingly audacious hypocrite.  You literally accuse people of doing things that you have done five minutes before.  You assail me for insulting people, ignoring that I only insult when I am provoked, and also ignoring that you insult people yourself.

It is hypocrisy par excellence to have a go at me for speaking negatively about anybody when you yourself practically attack people every day you're on here.  Moreover, you kicked-off this issue between us.  I started off by being civil to you.

Anything else?  Your language is very telling.  You think I have something to 'learn' and you keep referring to me (and other people) as if I am one of your pupils.  You are no longer in the classroom.  We are not your pupils.  The basic problem here is your attitude.

I'm sick of wiping your bottom. I suppose it's inevitable with someone with early stage Alzheimer's.

I presume most of the questions are rhetoric?

No, Hartley, they're not.

Can I recommend that before you continue to post, that you seek assistance with your English comprehension?

Or perhaps just ignore my posts if they're above your intellectual level?

Thank you, Hartley.

Oh okay.

It doesn't seem very concise, lots of words,  I was just after the bullet points.

My post is concise.

Concise =/ = Short

Buy a dictionary.

Also, I don't post here to your order, Hartley.

I've seen your posting history.  I know what your agenda here is.  If you plan to disrupt this thread, my advice is don't even think about it. I'll dissect you.

These are not spelling mistakes.

Furthermore, the context of those posts is that Hartley had come on the Forum to provoke me and wind me up, like you do.

Once again, you have made a fool of yourself, Steve.

Every time you post, you seem to underscore whatever point I am making.  Thanks.

If I was Julie Smerchanski or Colin Caffell, I would be begging you to stop posting on here.  You are a very poor advocate for your cause because you have a tendency to unwittingly reinforce your opponent's points.

Why are you asking someone on this site to buy a dictionary? You are at the very least intimidating members' right of free speech lest they fall foul of your imposed rules.

Why are you asking someone on this site to buy a dictionary? You are at the very least intimidating members' right of free speech lest they fall foul of your imposed rules.

Dictionaries also contain the meaning of words, they are not just consulted for the spelling of words.  Since you are a teacher, I must assume you know this, but there again, it's you we're talking about.  I sarcastically told Hartley to buy a dictionary because he was being a troll and winding me up.  As usual, you ignore the context of the post you refer to, as if I am posting on here in a vacuum.  It shows your bad faith and inherent dishonesty.

Let's now just take this opportunity to recap what has developed between us:

You tell me I have upbraided people for spelling errors.

I deny this, and point out that in fact it is you who has done this, if anybody.

You then produce examples in which I have not upbraided people for spelling errors, thus undermining and contradicting your own argument (something you are quite skilled at, fortunately for the rest of us).

Instead of accepting you are wrong, you ask in puzzlement why I am telling another poster to buy a dictionary, showing that you have not bothered to consider the context of the posts you refer to.  Or is it because, despite being a teacher, you don't know what a dictionary is used for?  Are you just that thick?

Now you say I am intimidating members' right of free speech.  What on earth are you talking about?  If anybody on here deters speech, it is surely yourself.  You seem to treat every disagreement as an opportunity to shame somebody.

Again, you ignore the context of the replies I posted.  NewHighlyStrungHartley is now giving us Sermons on the Mount about how we should conduct ourselves as posters.  That's hypocritical cant from somebody with years of experience as a troll on this Forum.  As explained, at the time my reply to him above was posted, he was coming on here to wind me up.  I was initially polite to him, as I was initially with you.

Putting aside the fact that you are plain wrong in every respect - as usual - why are you taking on disputes/arguments I am having with other posters?

Why do you take vicarious offence on behalf of other people, even complete strangers?
